“Luci is patient and friendly. She taught me how to lift weights safely. One thing that really stuck with me is deadlift technique: Coach Luci told me to pretend I am a tired basketball player with a flat back as I touch my toes, and to remember to keep my heels down when I squat, Coach Luci said when my heels come up, she can easily snatch money from under my feet so I need to protect my cash. “Coach Luci changed the way I thought about lifting weights. The way I learned in sports was to lift as much as I can every time and that the more weight you lift, the better you are. That’s not true. In fact, she helped me see that less weight with better form beats (and is safer than) more weight with bad form every time. She also made us “earn” heavier weight by having good form with lighter weights. I have kept this mentality as I moved on to the weight room at my high school.” –Jacob (15 yrs old)
